Please join NACC, the ACT Human Rights Film Festival, RamEvents, and the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery for a film viewing and panel discussion. In 2017 a band of Northern Arapaho tribal elders and youth journeys from the Wind River Reservation to Pennsylvania in 2017 to retrieve the bodies of three children buried at the Carlisle Indian boarding school over a century ago. We are honored to host this story, along with members of the Norther Arapaho community and film to join us for a discussion of the film and their experiences bringing these children home. Panelists will include Jordan Dresser, Tribal Chairman and Associate Producer; Yufna Solider Wolf, former Director of the Northern Arapaho Tribal Historic Preservation Office (NATHPO); and Geoff O’Gara, film director.
“Kill the Indian in him, and save the man” was the guiding principle of the U.S. government run Indian boarding school system starting in the late 19th Century. Through brutal assimilation tactics tens of thousands of Native children were sent off to boarding schools around the country that left the Native population scarred. See this era up close through the flagship boarding school, Carlisle Indian Industrial School, and follow the modern story of the Northern Arapaho seeking healing and fight to bring home the children that died at the school over 100 years ago.
